The Forehand Essentials I: 5 Single Steps to Understand It

Hey there today I am going to share what is the function of the forehand in tennis and 5 single steps to understand this type of shot.

What is a Forehand?

The forehand is a shot made by swinging the racket backwards pointing where  in the direction of where the player wants to place the shot. The beginner players start this shot as their first the instructors say it is one of the most essential shots of all the game, also they start to show this shot first because it is considered for many players as the easiest shot to master but I say it depends on the player because for some other people the backhand is much more easier because you can hit the ball with an easier progression than with the forehand.

The forehand is different for the right-handed players and for the left-handed player. For a right-handed player, the forehand is a strike that begins on the right side of his body, continues across his body as it makes contact with the ball, and ends on the left side of his body, it is the other way around with the left-handed players.

There are different ways of how to hold a racket:

  • Western
  • “Hawaiian”
  • Semi-Western
  • Semi-Eastern
  • Eastern
  • Continental
  • Two-Handed Forehand

The 5 steps to perform a forehand:

1.- Position:

First start by grabbing the racket with the right hand at the bottom of the grip and the left hand at the middle of the grip. Then you are going to open your feet until they are lined up with your shoulders.

2.-Taking Back The Racket

After you are in your ready position you are going to open a little bit more your right foot and turn your shoulders in the same direction taking back the racket only taking it with the right hand.

3.- Making Contact

After you have dropped your racket backward you are going to make contact with the ball by swinging your racket forward until you feel the ball.

4.- Pushing Forward

While you are making contact with the ball you are going to to push the ball as forward as you can until you see that the ball has made the contact you wanted. As you start to practice this move with the time you are going to start mastering the direction, power , etc. the ball is going to take.

5.- Ending

After you have made the correct contact with the ball you are going to take the racket at your left by moving your shoulder and your arm around your neck until your right hand makes contact with your left shoulder.

I am leaving some links to vids of how to do a forehand 🙂

Note: I do not own any of this videos this belong to their respective owners.

Thank You 🙂

Feel it in your hands, feet and mind?

Hello there! In this post I am going to talk about tennis in general. Lets start with: What is tennis? And How to play it?

Tennis is a sport in which is normally played by two persons that their objective is to pass the ball more times to the other side of the court  than his/her opponent. But in order to play tennis, the person that is going to play this sport will need a racket and the appropriate clothes. It is a very sepctated and a worldwide famous sport. But this game is very famous because of 4 tournaments called GrandSlam. The 4 existing are:

This sport can be played by anyone, but that does not mean it is easy to play it. For Example: The professional players train like 3-6 hours a day so they can dominate the “game”. What players do to be experts in this sport is to first understand of what does this is about an then they start to focus in their strengths and weaknesses so that in the future they can be good and enjoy of playing this magnificent sport.

It is a sport where contact with the opponent does not exists and where gentleness and respect predominate.

Maybe you will be asking. “How does people behave in tennis enviroment?” It is simple, they behave in a honest and in a humble way, that is the reason of why do people call it the “white sport”. Also respect makes presence in fact without it tennis would not be the same.

When I play tennis i try to enjoy the game and also have fun while playing a match because that is the beauty of any sport or game in fact that is the beauty of life. I am saying this because tennis can be a tricky sport while you play it it plays with your mind a little bit so what I try to do is relax, enjoy and have fun and it is not always about winning at some point any player will come to a lose and it is normal so just dont worry about it. (:
